How would I paint a black line around the inside edge of my ceiling?

In a magazine i read, they re-decorated a room and they painted a really thin black line around the edge of the ceiling to add a 'dramatic' effect, it looked really cool, but i dont know how i can get a straight line. I was thinking masking tape, but how would i make sure that was straight?

It would be really tough to paint such a line. There is a product out there, sold in art stores, that is basically a black tape. It comes in various widths, very thin usually, and graphic artists use it all the time, at least, they used to before much of graphic design was done on a computer.
